1. Trim the Wick: Before lighting your soy candle, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch (about 6mm). This helps to prevent excessive smoke and ensures a clean, even burn.
2. The First Burn: When lighting your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the entire surface has melted into a pool of wax. This can take a few hours depending on the candle's size. This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn in the future.
3. Avoid Drafts: Ensure that your candle is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts. Drafts can cause uneven burning and may even extinguish the flame.
4. Burn Responsibly: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Make sure it's placed on a flat, secure surface.
5. Keep It Clean: If you notice any soot buildup on the inside of the container, extinguish the candle, let it cool, and wipe the inside of the jar with a clean, damp cloth.
6. Extinguish Safely: To extinguish your candle, use a candle snuffer or gently blow it out. Avoid blowing directly onto the wax, as this can cause hot wax to splatter.
7. Memory Ring: Soy candles have a "memory ring." To ensure a consistent burn in the future, let the wax melt to the edge of the container each time you light it.
8. Reuse or Recycle: Once your soy candle has burned down to about half an inch of wax, it's time to retire it. Soy candle jars are often reusable. Simply clean out any remaining wax and reuse the container for various purposes, such as holding small items or as a decorative piece.
9. Scent Enjoyment: To fully enjoy the scent of your soy candle, allow it to burn long enough during each use to fill the room with its delightful aroma.
10. Safety Note: Avoid letting your candle burn down to the very bottom of the glass container, as the excessive heat from direct flame contact may cause the container to crack or break. All candles should be considered finished when there is approximately 1cm of wax left.
